To the attention of The Unsuspecting Investor
The private small investor has to be able to discern in which companies he or she should invest.
The purpose of this support service is to unravel what goes on behind the closed
doors of Board Rooms so that he or she is playing on a level playing field.
‘Unravelling Fuzzy Financial Reporting’ is an education program aimed at
focussing the attention of The Unsuspecting Investor on the following
topics:
Topic I : Why surprises happen
We start by analysing the
reasons why people are surprised when suddenly there is a profit warning issued
by a company and the consequent effect on the share price.
Topic II : The accounting jargon
Annual reports are full of accounting jargon which is used to confuse the uninitiated.
The use of accounting terms to blind one to the realities of the business
is explored in this part of the training.
Topic III : The Annual Report
The Annual Report was intended to inform shareholders and investors of the performance of a company or Group and of future development of the
business. Our findings are far from ideal.
Topic IV : The techniques to blind the unwary investor
In order to boost profits various techniques are used which are not always in accordance with the
accounting standard being used. We highlight these techniques for The Unsuspecting Investor.
Topic V : If in doubt do not invest
We indicate to the Unsuspecting Investor the key indicators to look out for before
purchasing a share and the valuation principles used.
Topic VI : Case Studies
We have prepared a number of case studies in respect of the major quoted companies in Europe which
demonstrate performance, valuation and capitalisation and the economic reality
in each case.
